Homeless Coalition
80% of Veterans served at the Homeless Coalition secured permanent housing!
HOMELESS COALITION
There are always 22 beds reserved for homeless Veterans at The Homeless Coalition. Our priority is to immediately provide shelter to every homeless Veteran referred to us from the Veterans Administration. While in our emergency shelter, a Veteran Case Manager will connect the Veteran to housing resources & necessary documentation.
The Homeless Coalition works alongside the Veterans Administration and other local agencies to help veterans navigate the VA to secure available financial, medical, and housing benefits. We provide a driver, who is on call to drive resident veterans to necessary appointments. We offer monthly field trips for veterans as a therapeutic service. Field trips may involve trips to museums or fishing charters.
HOMELESS COALITION
The Homeless Coalition provides a number of services from emergency shelter and food to assistance navigating government assistance programs such as Medicaid, Medicare, Disability, Veteran’s benefits, TANF, food stamps, and child care assistance.
Our Emergency Shelter provides a safe, supervised, low barrier shelter for up to 30-days. On any given day, 10-15 children and their families call the Emergency Shelter home. Our philosophy is to quickly move newly homeless clients from Emergency Shelter back into permanent housing through intensive case management. The number one service we provide is stability and keeping families intact. Over the past year, the Emergency Shelter gave safe refuge to over 398 people, including 66 children under 18.
Our Homeless Prevention Program practices the "Housing First" model for housing chronically homeless individuals. This model is a proven approach that believes anyone experiencing homelessness should be provided with permanent housing with few to no preconditions or barriers. It involves prioritizing people with the highest needs and vulnerabilities. We also partner with United Way Season of Sharing and Community Partners for assistance.
The Bridges Out of Poverty curriculum addresses some of the root causes of generational poverty and allows participants to apply new knowledge, skills, and attitudes at their own pace. Bridges offers permanent and realistic solutions to long-term financial issues.
Our Hunger Prevention program includes Hot Meals and Food Pantry. Hot Meals serves nutritious breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and snacks 365 days per year to more than 150 individuals every day. Last year we served more than 82,000 hot meals and snacks to our Emergency Shelter residents and community members needing to stretch their food dollars. The Pantry distributes a three-day supply of food and toiletry items to over 80 individuals and families every week. Food items include fresh fruits and vegetables, frozen food, and non-perishable food. We also provide food for pets to help offset increasing monthly expenses.
